A couple of years ago, we, Tobias and Martin, were in the Austrian National Rowing Team, training and competing thousands of kilometers on various rivers, lakes and other rowing cites across Europe. It was a tough yet rewarding time: the nature around us rowers is unbeatable, the fitness we rowers gain through the full-body movement is top and the adventures and friendships you make when you join a club are eternal.
You probably know quite well the rowing mode: the feeling when the boat flows nicely, your team is in sync, the power you put into every stroke... You basically can't stop! Well, we hardly stopped unless our hands were - literally - bloody and full of blisters. Especially in the beginning of the season when we tested different boats, materials, grips and teams. Since there were no real gloves for rowers on the market, we wanted to do something about it...
We collected ideas, asked our rowing team-mates, material technicians and designers and quickly found a producer in Austria. After some prototyping and testing phases, the first ROWTEX ORIGINALS rowing gloves were on the market. Our name ROWTEX came somewhat naturally, obviously a combination of ROWing and TEXtiles.
We put the main focus on the protection of the rower's hands in order to prevent the development of blisters and swellings. At the same time, we wanted to make gloves which maintain the feeling of rowing and do not impede the athlete.
Since then, the awareness and usage of ROWTEX gloves has steadily increased and our clients include elite athletes, leisure rowers, masters and students (University of Cambridge, Brunel University). ROWTEX rowers, like Magdalena Lobnig and the Sieber brothers, have successfully participated and won medals at the World Championships, European Championships, European University Championships, and Under 23 World Championships.
So, what next? Staying with gloves or taking the project ROWTEX a step further? Many of our customers, friends and rowing colleagues have been asking for rowing clothes customized for rowers: jackets, vests, shorts, T-shirts, pants, etc. with high functionality, perfect fit and great design. With Northland Professional, we found a highly professional and experienced partner in the sports clothing industry in Austria. To design clothes at a high quality that meets the demands for the rowing sport, we are happy that we can rely on a partner with years of experience with the use of versatile and durable textiles, sustainable and fair production.
The spirit of ROWTEX is and will always be driven by your ideas. Let us know what should be the next ROWTEX collection!
At your service,
Tobias and Martin
